NASA Recognized Among the World's 'Webbiest'

On a night when the medium was the message, NASA was recognized among the world's best on the World Wide Web.

Shortly after midnight EDT on June 5, in the most recent of its annual Webby Award ceremonies, the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences selected two NASA Web sites for top honors in their respective categories. The Webby is the most coveted award by the on-line community (visit http://www.webbyawards.com for details).

The NASA Home Page (at http://www.nasa.gov), managed by Brian Dunbar and his team at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., won the Webby in the "Government & Law" category. And NASA's Earth Observatory (at http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov), managed by David Herring and his team at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, won the Webby in the "Education" category.

Additionally, both sites won "People's Voice Awards" for their respective categories. In keeping with the spirit of the Web's capacity for global interactivity, the People's Voice Award is determined by a popular vote in which anyone in the world can vote for their favorites in each of the Webby's thirty categories.

There were five sites nominated in each category. The Academy's judges evaluated each nominee based upon six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience.
