How early should I arrive prior to a flight?

Check with the airline you are flying on.  The airline phone numbers can be found on the web page, http://www6.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/hnl/hnl_airlines.htm

How do I catch a connecting flight to a neighbor island from Honolulu International Airport?

A good tip is find out the name of the connecting flight when you are making the reservations.

If you are flying with Aloha Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines to the neighbor islands, you will depart from the Interisland Terminal Building.  If you are flying with Island Air or Pacific Wings to the neighbor islands, you will depart from the Commuter Terminal Building, which is adjacent to the Interisland Terminal Building.

In general, there are two ways to get there:

  - via Wiki-Wiki Express:  This is a free shuttle that provides transportation around the Honolulu International Airport between terminal buildings.   There will be signs directing you to the "Wiki-Wiki Shuttle".  "Wiki-Wiki Shuttle" bus stops are located outside each Terminal on the first level at curbside. Visitor information booths in the Main Overseas Terminal can provide additional assistance.

  - a 10 - 15 minute walk:  This is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Main Overseas Terminal to the Interisland Terminal Building.  There will be signs directing you to "Interisland Flights Aloha  - Hawaiian".  The Commuter Terminal is an additional 5-10 minute walk from the Interisland Terminal Building.  Upon arriving at the Interisland Terminal Building, go to the ground level and walk along the roadway to the Commuter Terminal.

There are courtesy phones at the Main Overseas Terminal, Interisland Terminal Building and Commuter Terminal to assist travelers daily, except between the hours of 12:30 a.m. through 4:00 a.m.

I have a connecting flight to a neighbor island from Honolulu International Airport.  How is my luggage being handled?

Your ticket jacket contains claim tickets for your individual pieces of luggage.  The claim ticket has the airport code for the final destination for your luggage.  Example: You have claim tickets and are arriving at Honolulu International Airport and you have a connecting flight to Maui.  If the final destination on the claim ticket reads HNL, your luggage will be dropped off at Honolulu International Airport.  You will need to retrieve your luggage from Baggage Claim and take your luggage with you to the connecting flight.  The common airport codes are:

HNL

ITO

KOA

LIH

OGG

Honolulu International Airport

Hilo International Airport

Kona International Airport at Keahole

Lihue Airport

Kahului Aiport

Are there baggage/luggage lockers or baggage storage facility at Honolulu International Airport, where are they located, and what are the rates, sizes available, and hours or operation?

Due to enhanced airport security requirements, baggage storage and locker facilities at the Honolulu International Airport are not available.  However, there are three companies outside the Honolulu International Airport that offer baggage storage for passengers.

One company that picks up and delivers luggage for storage at the Honolulu International Airport is called the Aloha Airport Delivery. The cost is $25.00 for the first bag per day and $5.00 per day for any numbe of additional items. Storage fees are prepaid and their phone number is (808) 372-5411 or they can be contacted at e-mail address

Another option is a company called Honolulu Baggage Storage that picks up and drops off luggage for short and long term storage here at the airport. They operate daily from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (after hours drop offs available) and the charge for 1-4 bags is $25.00 (total) per day or a fraction thereof . They can be contacted by telephone at (808) 447-9096, by e-mail address at

honobaggagestorage@att.net or through their website at http://www.honolulubaggagestorage.com. The company can also be reached on the Traveler's Information Center in the baggage claim areas of the Honolulu International Airport by pressing the number "44" on the phone board.

The third company is called Alii Stor-Mor that is located about a mile from the airport that has indicated to us over the phone that they could store items or luggage (up to four suitcases) for $20.00-$25.00 per day depending on the size of the bags. Their storage facility is open from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Please call (808) 836-0135 to get further details on their service.  You may need to use a taxi or rent a car to transport your items for this establishment if they cannot arrange to pick up your luggage from the airport which may or may not be possible depending on how busy they are and their available personnel.

Are there wheelchairs available for use by disabled passengers?

Airlines provide assistance to passengers with special needs through their skycap (porter) service.  Disabled passengers should make arrangements with their air carrier in advance, preferably when reservations are made/confirmed.

How can I comment or make a suggestion about my experiences at the airport?

The Airports Division maintains the Airports Suggestion Hotline which accepts comments and suggestions from the public.  The hotline has handled comments ranging from commendations for airport/airline employees to the amount of noise generated by aircraft operations.

The phone number for the hotline is 1-888-697-7813.
