Individual Assistance Extended to Eight Additional Iowa Counties

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Eight additional counties are now eligible for federal Individual Assistance. All of these counties have previously been approved for Public Assistance so the total number of Iowa counties designated in the May 27 disaster declaration stays at 78.

Homeowners, renters and business owners in Clinton, Decatur, Dubuque, Greene, Keokuk, Pottawattamie, Van Buren and Washington counties are now eligible to apply for Individual Assistance to help recover from the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding beginning on May 25 and continuing. Individual Assistance has now been approved for 62 Iowa counties.

Iowans can register by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or for those with speech or hearing impairments TTY 1-800-462-7585. Representatives are available from 6 a.m.-11 p.m., seven days a week until further notice, with service in many languages. You can also register anytime at www.fema.gov.

The 62 counties approved for Individual Assistance include: Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Pottawattamie, Scott, Story, Tama, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright.

Individual Assistance may be used for temporary disaster housing and for the repair of disaster-damaged homes, returning them to safe, secure and livable condition. Public Assistance reimburses government and certain non-profit entities for debris removal and repair of damaged public facilities like schools, water treatment plants, utility systems, parks, bridges and roads.

The 77 counties now approved for Public Assistance are: Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Henry, Howard, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lyon, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Montgomery, Muscatine, Page, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Polk, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Scott, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright. Joint federal and state disaster assessments throughout the state are on-going. (Lucas County is eligible for federal Individual Assistance only, which brings the total number of designated counties to 78.)
