November marks the anniversary of man’s first flight. In November 1782, the experiments of Joseph Michel Montgolfier and Jacques Etienne Montgolfier resulted in the invention of the hot air balloon, which launched the history of aviation. To help celebrate the evolution of the air plane and how it contributes to our defense, the Government Printing Office is featuring the following publications on aviation and its history.
