Every High School in Macedonia Now Has a Computer Lab

(Gevgelija) One year ago, the late President Boris Trajkovski cut the ribbon of the first computer laboratory in Josif Josifovski High School in Gevgelija. These 20 computers were the first of the 2,000 computers donated by the People’s Republic of China. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje, installed the new computers here and completed 88 more computer labs in every high school in Macedonia.

USAID’s E-Schools Project has installed all 2,000 computers and trained teachers throughout Macedonia.

The inauguration in Gevgelija included Deputy Minister of Education, Tale Geramitcioski; USAID Director, Dick Goldman, representatives from the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China, and other local and national personalities.

Since that moment all secondary schools in Macedonia have received a similar laboratory with 20 computers each, have seen their labs painted with brilliant colors and their teachers trained to use this new technology.

During this inauguration in Gevgelia, a new concept in education was also inaugurated: E-School. All Macedonian high schools have been given the opportunity to become an “E-School”, a new type of school that will bring Macedonian youth the possibility to access the outside world, new information, new ideas and a better preparation to face the future. The authorities were there to endorse this vision and to support the development of Macedonia through better education for its students.

Today, “Josif Josifovski” and all other schools have this opportunity. It will be up to the directors, teachers and students to take this opportunity and fly with it.
