Project Aims to Raise Awareness of Citizens’ Access to Justice

To educate citizens on the role and function of the judiciary, USAID/Kosovo's Justice Support Project produced three TV public service announcements (PSAs) to increase public understanding of the administration of, and citizens’ access to, justice.

The PSAs will be broadcast regularly on television throughout Kosovo to help encourage a culture of the rule of law with equal access for all communities. The spots center on judicial reform and modernization and focus on judicial independence, access to justice, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Their message: judicial institutions are available to all citizens of Kosovo without regard to ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, or gender.

More than 30 broadcast and judicial professionals were involved in the production of the PSAs. Students from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts joined the crew and had an opportunity to practice their craft. More than 80 extras, including Kosovo Roma and Serbs from Gracanica, were featured. The PSAs will air on television stations in Albanian and Serbian languages.

The USAID program will further expand its efforts to build public awareness of the judiciary through the development of a television mini-series. The Justice Support Project is implemented by the National Center for State Courts.

Three TV public service announcements were produced with USAID support to educate citizens on Kosovo's judicial system. A justice-themed mini-series is currently in development.
