USAID Launches New Youth Program in the Russian Far East

On April 14-15, USAID and Winrock International launched a new two-year program, LIDER: Youth Advocacy and Social Networks (using the Russian acronym for Leadership, Initiative, Action, Unity, and Results). More than 100 representatives from youth organizations, youth parliaments, regional administrations, and mass media participated in the launch in Khabarovsk. In his opening remarks, the U.S. Consul General Thomas Armbruster applauded the efforts of youth activists to promote active and healthy lifestyles throughout the Russian Far East.

The LIDER program aims to strengthen the connection between young people and their communities by boosting participation in local governance and advocacy on health and social issues affecting them in Khabarovskiy and Primorskiy Krai.

Winrock plans to involve at least 20,000 young people aged 14-20 in the program, with newly-created Youth Advisory Councils participating in the design of all activities.
