                OSM AWARDS INDIANA $1,775,176 TO ASSIST

          IN REGULATING SURFACE EFFECTS OF COAL MINING


     The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing Indiana with a $1,775,176 grant to help
the state regulate the surface effects of coal mining.
     The grant pays half of Indiana's inspection and enforcement costs,
including expenses for equipment, supplies, and transportation.
