OSM FACT SHEET U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Surface Mining NOV 13, 1997 OSM AWARDS NAVAJO TRIBE $l75,379 ABANDONED MINE LANDS GRANT The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) has awarded the Navajo Indian Tribe a $175,379 grant to assist in funding the tribe's abandoned mine land (AML) reclamation program on tribal lands in Arizona and New Mexico. Legislation was enacted in July 1987 authorizing Indian Tribes to operate their own AML reclamation programs, while OSM continues to administer the federal regulatory program for coal mine reclamation on Indian Lands and the AML Fund.
