                OSM AWARDS WEST VIRGINIA ADDITIONAL $245,859 TO ASSIST

          IN REGULATING SURFACE EFFECTS OF COAL MINING


     The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing West Virginia with an additional $245,859
grant to help the state regulate the surface effects of coal mining.

     The grant pays half of West Virginia's inspection and enforcement
costs, including expenses for equipment, supplies, and transportation.
