Departments

The ALERT crew is broken down in to four distinct divisions. Each one is depended upon in order to make ALERT function.

Deck

Deck departmentDeck department is the biggest department on the ALERT. It consists of all Seaman and Seaman Apprentices as well as Boatswain Mates and several officers and chiefs. Newly reported SA and SN as well as BM3s and BM2s can expect to become qualified as a Gangway Petty Officer of the Watch while inport and as a Helmsman and Lookout while underway. All SA, SN and BMs can expect to become qualified as basic and advanced damage controlman. BMs can expect to become qualified as Junior Officer of the Deck.

Engineering

Engineering departmentThe engineering department includes several rates, each proficient in several aspects of machinery. Engineering rates include Machinery Technicians, Damage Controlman, and Electrician Mates. All rates can expect to become qualified as a Auxiliary Watchstander inport and may qualify for other watches while underway depending on rate. All rates can also expect to qualify as basic and advanced damage controlman.

Operations

Operations departmentThe operations department consists of several petty officers and comissioned officers who maintain constant communications, load crypto, man and operate radios, conduct background investigations and vessel reports, repair and maintain electronics, maintain servers and internet connectivity, man and operate radars, and function as critical elements in ALERT's maritime readiness. Several rates are included in the operations department including Operation Specialists, Electronic Technicians, Information Systems Technicians, and several officers. Those that will be reporting aboard as future OS's, ET's, or IT's can expect to receive training as an Operations Specialist of the Watch while underway and receive training as a Gangway Petty Officer of the Watch while moored to Astoria.

Supply

Supply departmentThe supply department consists of several petty officers and a supply officer. Supply department includes such rates as Yeoman, Storekeeper, Food Service Specialists, and Health Service Technicians. Each job is diverse, but they all relate to serving the crew's needs, Whether it be with medications and other medical treatment, filling out orders and managing crew pay, cooking up delicious and nutricious meals, or managing ship funds and supplies. Those reporting aboard as an YN, SK, FS, or HS can expect to receive on the job training in your specific rate. YN, SK and HS can expect to become qualified as a Gangway Petty Officer of the Watch while inport, as well as basic and advanced damage control qualified.
