View Events affecting the following regions (filtered to exclude questionable events):

Note: An event may generate runups in more than one region. For a list of unique events (no duplicates), please use the Tsunami Source Event Search page.

The Historical Tsunami Database consists of two related files containing information on tsunami events from 2000 B.C. to the present in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans; and the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas.
  1. The Tsunami Source Event Search provides information on the source of the tsunami. These data include source location, date, and time, event magnitude, maximum water height, total number of deaths, injuries and damage for the event.

NOTE: Some events do not have runup information; other events have many locations where a runup height was recorded.

  2. The Tsunami Runup Search provides information on locations where tsunami effects occurred. These data include arrival date and time, travel time, maximum water heights, horizontal inundation distances, deaths, injuries, and damage for specific locations.
