Governor Charlie Crist, on behalf of the Florida Disaster Recovery Fund, is presenting checks for $25,000 each to three designated Long-term Recovery Organizations to assist families affected by Tropical Storm Fay. The recipients are Brevard Long-term Recovery Coalition, St. Lucie Inspired Network to Achieve Community Together and Volusia Interfaiths/Agencies Networking in Disaster. Their service areas were determined to be hardest hit in the state. Recipient organizations will use the grants for start-up costs, such as staffing, needs assessment and volunteer recruitment. These projects will begin November 1st. By early 2009, the grantees should be ready for the second part of the project, providing direct assistance to households.
