ARGONNE, Ill. (March 21, 2007) — Argonne Director Robert Rosner discusses science and accelerators with host Chris Clark on the "Conversation Hour" on 774 ABC radio in Melbourne, Australia.

Rosner was in Melbourne to discuss construction of the Clayton synchrotron at the Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science, Monash University

Argonne houses a synchrotron, the Advanced Photon Source, which is the Western Hemisphere's largest source of X-rays for research, and Argonne scientists have been involved in the development of Australia 's synchrotron.

Rosner's background is in astrophysics, especially "evolution and dynamics of magnetic fields in non-stellar contexts, such as in clusters of galaxies, in galaxies themselves, and in the young universe."

Rosner's section of the astronomy and astrophysics department at the University of Chicago goes by the name "Rosnerville." In it he and his colleagues are looking into astrophysical fluid dynamics and magnetic fields in space, using theoretical research, observations and computer modeling.

Argonne National Laboratory brings the world's brightest scientists and engineers together to find exciting and creative new solutions to pressing national problems in science and technology. The nation's first national laboratory, Argonne conducts leading-edge basic and applied scientific research in virtually every scientific discipline. Argonne researchers work closely with researchers from hundreds of companies, universities, and federal, state and municipal agencies to help them solve their specific problems, advance America 's scientific leadership and prepare the nation for a better future. With employees from more than 60 nations, Argonne is managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science.
