The Regional Office presence in San Juan began in 1926, during the days of the Veterans Bureau. We have operated out of many locations in the San Juan metropolitan area since then, including Old San Juan itself, Puerta de Tierra, Santurce and as a co-tennant of the VA Hospital in Rio Piedras. In 1976 we moved to our present location, the Federico Degetau Federal Office Building in Hato Rey.

Our jurisdictional area includes the entire Island of Puerto Rico (along with its two sister islands of Vieques and Culebra), and the United States Virgin Islands, which include St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.  Our staff serves approximately 150,000 Spanish and English-speaking veterans.  The benefits and services administered total nearly $350M in annual benefit payments. Our locations are separated by up to 125 miles of open sea.  We are approximately 1,500 air miles from Washington, DC.

We have personnel located in three out-based locations: the Satellite Clinics located in Ponce, Mayaguez, and Arecibo. Personnel also conduct patient visits at the VA Medical facility in Rio Piedras twice a week. In addition to a VA Regional Office and a VA Hospital there is also a National Cemetery in Bayamon.
