- The VA Sunshine Healthcare Network, also known as Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 8, is located in Bay Pines, a subdivision of St. Petersburg, Florida. VISN 8 health care is delivered through an integrated system of eight hospitals (two of which are integrated) that includes 1,612 authorized/1,534 operating beds, nine multi-specialty outpatient clinics, 36 community-based primary care clinics, eight nursing homes (1,304 authorized/1,093 operating beds), and two domiciliaries (180 authorized/134 operating beds). Geographically, the network spans approximately 63,400 square miles that inclues more than 1.8 million veterans throughout Florida, Southern Georgia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

- VISN 8 operates an annual budget of $2.7 billion and maintains approximately 17,800 full time employees. VISN 8 is the largest of the Department of Veterans Affairs' 21 healthcare networks, treating over 525,000 patients each year with over 650,000 enrolled veterans. VISN 8 maintains active teaching programs at four health systems and provides graduate medical education to approximately 550 physician residents annually. Major affiliations exist with University of Florida, University of Miami School of Medicine, Nova Southeastern University School of Osteopathic Medicine, and University of Puerto Rico Health Sciences Center. In addition, VISN 8 provides valuable training to students in nursing rehabilitation, social work, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and other allied health programs.
