Facility Picture
The Chillicothe VA Medical Center is located 5 miles north of Chillicothe on 308 acres of rural land once occupied by World War I Camp Sherman. The beautiful campus-style facility provides acute and chronic mental health services, primary and secondary medical services, extended care, a wide range of nursing home care services, and serves as a chronic mental health referral center for other VA facilities in southern Ohio. An active ambulatory care setting, including several mental health services, specialty medical services and specialized women veterans clinics is also available. Patients requiring tertiary medical services are referred to VA facilities in Cincinnati (105 miles) or Dayton (75 miles).

Clinic Hours:  VAMC Chillicothe operates five community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Athens, Cambridge, Lancaster, Marietta, and Portsmouth, Ohio.  VAMC Chillicothe's outplacement program includes both the Community Nursing Home and Residential Care programs. The Medical Center is staffed 24/7 with a full complement of clinics and administrative services available Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays. Community Based Outpatient Clinics are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays. Outpatient pharmacy services are provided Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays.

Affiliations: VAMC Chillicothe has affiliations with The Ohio State University College of Medicine, the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine for the purposes of education, training and research.  There are 264 university residents, interns and students trained at this medical center each year.  There are also nursing affiliations with The Ohio State University, Hocking College, and others.  Other educational program affiliations exist involving dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, social work, psychology, physician assistants, occupational/kinesio/physical therapy, health administration, health information management, dietetics and audiology and speech pathology.  

Academic Affiliation Programs have been developed in Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Recreation Sports and Science and Human Service Technology.   There is collaboration in the areas of medical and, optometry with Inactive Duty Training (IDT) National Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Augmentation Detachment. 
 During this reporting period new affiliation agreements have been established with, Jacksonville University - Bachelor’s in Nursing; Ohio University in Athens; University of Virginia – Bachelor’s in Dietetics; and, Bowling Green State University – Bachelor’s in Dietetics.   To participate in the FY 2006 Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) we have two new affiliations with Central State University and Wilberforce University of Ohio.
