The U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office for Maine is located on the grounds of the Togus VA Medical Center.  Togus, the oldest veterans' facility in the country, having opened in the fall of 1866, is located approximately four miles east of Augusta, the state capital.   Our 82 employees work hard to "honor and serve the veterans and their dependents."

The employees of the Togus Regional Office administer a full range of compensation and pension benefits for approximately 22,415 veterans in the state. These benefits include disability compensation and pension, death compensation, death pension and dependency and indemnity compensation, burial and accrued benefits, as well as many ancillary benefits such as clothing allowance and specially adapted equipment grants for motor vehicles.  Other services such as insurance, loan guaranty, and education benefits, can be accessed through the Togus Regional Office.  The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment division provides comprehensive counseling and rehabilitation services using the most advanced methods and techniques for eligible veterans and their families to ensure their opportunity to obtain realistic and satisfying vocational and personal goals.
