Screen for Life TV PSA Transcripts

Jimmy Smits - "The Screening"

:60

Jimmy Smits: The screenings that happen here might be fun or dramatic. But it's not real life. There's a screening that is real life—and it could save your life. It's a screening test for colorectal cancer, the second leading cancer killer of men and women. But this is one cancer you can prevent. Screening finds precancerous polyps, so they can be removed before they turn into cancer. I got screened. Now it's your turn. So you can stick around and enjoy the show.

Announcer: If you're 50 or older, talk to your doctor and get screened for colorectal cancer.

Jimmy Smits: The most important screening isn't the one that happens here. It's screening for colorectal cancer, the second leading cancer killer. Having a screening test is the best way to prevent this disease. That's right, you can prevent it. I got screened. Now it's your turn.

Jimmy Smits - "La Vida Real"

Diane Keaton - "Grammy Keaton"

:60

Diane Keaton: It's impossible to replace anybody that you love. She was my great role model, my Grammy Keaton. I aspired to be a lady like her. It was pretty much of a shock for us when she got colon cancer. We were... none of us were prepared for that. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer of men and women over the age of 50. And you know what? This is one that you can prevent! You know, it's kind of hard to get your mind around the fact that you are 60 years old. I'm 60 years old! I've had, you know, an amazing, amazing experience just being alive. I love life. Every minute is astonishing. It's a huge gift to be here. Just get screened, okay? Trust me, it's okay. I'm going to do everything possible to stay alive as long as I can. Obviously, in good health. In good health. And I think we can all do this. You can do it, I can do it. If I can do it, you can do it, okay? How's that for a deal?

Morgan Freeman - "Picture of Health"

:60

Morgan Freeman: Has anyone ever said, 'You're the picture of health'? You look healthy, you feel fine, but that may not be the full picture. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer of men and women over 50. Since it doesn't always cause symptoms, you may not know you have it. The only way to know is by getting screened. Screening can find precancerous polyps, so they can be removed before they turn into cancer. This is one cancer you can prevent. Plus, screening can find colorectal cancer at an early stage, when the chance for a full recovery is very high. Talk with your doctor. And get tested for colorectal cancer. Medicare and many insurance plans help pay for screening. Get screened. Make sure you are the picture of health.

Narrator: This moment is possible because this man was screened for colorectal cancer. It's the second leading cancer killer of men and women over 50. But it doesn't have to be. Screening for colorectal cancer saves lives. Both Doug and Susan were screened. In Doug's case, screening found precancerous polyps. He had no symptoms, so he had no idea there was anything wrong. Doug's doctor was able to remove the polyps before they turned into cancer. Think their granddaughter will become star of her college swim team? Now, chances are better than ever that Doug and Susan will be around to find out. Screening saves lives. If you're over 50, speak with your doctor and get screened for colorectal cancer.
