The St. Louis VA Regional Office (VARO) occupies a GSA leased building and provides the full range of benefits and services to approximately 569,045 veterans and dependents residing in the State of Missouri. Compensation and Pension benefits paid monthly total $32,514,105. During Fiscal Year 2000, 182 veterans were rehabilitated with an average monthly salary of $2,442.

An outbased VA Office located in the Kansas City VA Medical Center (VAMC), provides locality-specific services to veterans in western Missouri. Veterans Service Representatives (VSRs) are stationed at VA Medical Centers located in Kansas City and St. Louis (John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks),Missouri. There is one Counseling Psychologist and one Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist at the Kansas City VAMC and one Counseling Psychologist at the Columbia VAMC. Out-based pre-discharge offices provide support to the military communities at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Illinois; and as of May 1, 2001 at Whiteman Air Force Base, Warrensburg, Missouri.

As one of four Regional Processing Offices (RPO), our Education Division administers all education benefits to veterans, servicepersons and dependents residing in 15 states. Education benefits totaling $293,926,353 were paid out of the St. Louis RPO to veterans, servicepersons and dependents during Fiscal Year 2000.

The St. Louis VARO also houses the expanded Veterans Special Issues Hotline that provides toll-free telephone service to the nation, informing veterans and their families of available medical care and other benefits on new programs and current topics of interest.

Four employees of the Office of Resolution Management occupy space in the St. Louis Regional Office Building. A representative of the Missouri Division of Employment Security has an office in the St. Louis Regional Office building.
