COASTAL USE ISSUES 

COURSE SCOPE

The Coastal Use Issues Course provides an introductory understanding of the laws and regulations regarding the East and Gulf Coasts of the United States of America. A recent Executive Order 13158, May 2000 extends these requirements to the West Coast, Alaska, and the Pacific Basin.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the Coastal Use Issues Course, you will  be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of each Act in promoting the wise use and management of the nation's natural resources:

    • Coastal Zone Management Act

    • Coastal Barrier Resources Act (C B R A)

    • Coastal Barrier Islands Act

    • Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act 

  • Know the purpose and history of Coastal Land Management

  • Describe Coastal Zone Management Programs

  • Discuss Executive Order 13158 and its importance to Coastal Land Management

COURSE LENGTH

Approximately two (2) hours.
