U S  B O R, Water Treatment Primer for Communities in Need

Bureau of Reclamation has prepared a primer for small communities covering water treatment methods and contaminants. This primer was developed by the bureau’s Water Treatment Engineering and Research Group when they found there was no readily available information on contaminant removal processes. The primer and free fact sheets are available here.

The fact sheets describe both conventional and advanced processes using best available treatment techniques approved by U S  E P A. The primer covers construction and O & M costs, pretreatment requirements, process advantages and disadvantages, public health and safety. The contaminants addressed include those most common in small or rural systems.

The fact sheets can help a small water system evaluate the alternatives available for solving their specific water treatment problems.
