What is RSS? |

Public policies--in the form of international, national, state, and local laws, regulations, and treaties--can greatly influence the economic well-being of the U.S. agricultural sector, agribusiness sectors, and individual producers. CSREES provides national leadership, funding, technical assistance, and advice to land-grant colleges and universities that have specific research and extension programs related to agricultural and rural policy research and analysis. In addition, CSREES supports public issues education programs conducted by the Cooperative Extension System.

In Focus

• CSREES awards more than $3.7 million in grants to 21 states for staffing and operating AgrAbility projects.
• The National Public Policy Education Committee's Public Issues Education Competencies Task Force created the publication "Public Issues Education."

Partnerships

• CSREES partners with the Farm Foundation in leading the efforts of the National Public Policy Education Committee and the Public Issues Education Committee.

Selected Results and Impacts

• CSREES sponsored research to determine public preferences for amenities provided by farm and forest land.
• A CSREES-administered congressionally directed grant funds research to create farm simulation models to show economic impacts of alternative farm policies.
• CSREES research helps public decisionmakers entertain policy options to address the economic, social, and environmental impacts of land use change.
