Johnson Space Center Recovering, Won't Open Until Monday

The Johnson Space Center remains closed and will not open until Monday, Sept. 22nd. The Center has electricity and water; however, building assessments are still underway. Additionally, the surrounding infrastructure is improving each day. Clear Lake Regional Hospital is now open. Some grocery stores and restaurants are open, but they operate sporadically. Please continue to monitor local news for information on school openings.

In the meantime, the Center will open an Employee and Family Recharge and Refresh (R&R) Station at the Gilruth Center located on Space Center Blvd between Bay Area Blvd and NASA Rd. 1. The R&R Station is available for badged civil servants and contractors and their families. The R&R Station is only intended for JSC Team members who do not have power and/or water. However, for those who want to volunteer or donate items, please see details at the agency's Emergency Operations Center Web site.

The R&R Station begins on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Gilruth Center, including the Fitness Facility, is NOT open for regular business.

NASA employees who wish to help their co-workers can contribute through the NASA Family Assistance Fund.
