Saving, Color Adjusting, and Printing Images

Color Adjustments/Enhancements:

The following steps describe how to color adjust images using Adobe Photoshop, although the images can be edited in other programs as well. The following information will provide you with a general idea of the color enhancement techniques to be used on this imagery using any image editing program, considering that the information must be adapted programs other than Adobe Photoshop.   1. Make sure your image is opened in Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Color enhancements:
    1. Go to Image, and then Adjustments on the menu bar at the top of the screen.

    2. All of the items listed in the pop-out menu are the image color enhancement tools.
      1. Image, Adjustments, Levels... allows for manual manipulation of the color channels in the image.

      2. Image, Adjustments, Auto Levels... automatically manipulates the color channels in the image.

      3. Image, Adjustments, Auto Contrast... automatically adjusts the brightness/contrast levels in the image in relation to the brightest and darkest pixels in the image.

      4. Image, Adjustments, Auto Color... automatically adjusts the color levels in the image in relation to the color variations in the image.

      5. Image, Adjustments, Curves... allows for manual manipulation of the levels of opacity in each of the color channels in the image.

      6. Image, Adjustments, Color Balance... allows for manual manipulation of the tonal balance of each of the color channels in the image, in the shadows, midtones, and highlights.

      7. Image, Adjustments, Brightness/Contrast... allows for manual manipulation of the brightness/contrast levels in the image in relation to the brightest and darkest pixels in the image.

      8. Image, Adjustments, Hue/Saturation... allows for manual manipulation of the hue/saturation levels in each of the color channels in the image.

      9. Image, Adjustments, Desaturate automatically adjusts the color channels in the image, creating a black and white result.

      10. Image, Adjustments, Replace Color... allows for manual manipulation of the color area you select.

      11. Image, Adjustments, Selective Color... allows for manual manipulation of the color channels in the image.

      12. Image, Adjustments, Replace Color... allows for manual manipulation of the area you select.

      13. Image, Adjustments, Channel Mixer... allows for manual manipulation of the color channels in the image.

      14. Image, Adjustments, Gradient Map... overlays a gradient on the image due to it's colr channels/brightness.

      15. Image, Adjustments, Replace Color... automatically inverts the color channels in the image.

      16. Image, Adjustments, Replace Color... allows for manual manipulation of the area you select.

      17. Image, Adjustments, Equalize... equalizes the color in the image.

      18. Image, Adjustments, Threshold... ajusts the image in flat, 2-dimensional, black and white form.

      19. Image, Adjustments, Replace Color... allows for manual manipulation of the area you select.

      20. Image, Adjustments, Posterize... posterizes the image.

      21. Image, Adjustments, Variations... allows you to pick and choose the color level enhancements.


  3. For resizing your image::
    1. Make sure the Mode (Image, Mode) is set to RGB Color or CMYK Color for best results.

    2. Select Image, Image Size... from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

    3. Choose your desired size, and select "OK."
      Note: if printing the image, a resolution of 300 dpi(dots per inch)/ppi(pixels per inch) or greater is best.
