Research Interests:

Dr. Storey is a Distinguished Research and Development Staff Member and has been at ORNL since 1992, and in the Fuels, Engines, and Emissions Research Center (FEERC) since 1993. He leads the emissions characterization efforts for FEERC and participates in both the fuels and combustion programs in this capacity. Dr. Storey has been active in automotive catalysis for diesel applications since joining FEERC. His catalysis research focuses on the unregulated and regulated emissions from prototype and full-size aftertreatment systems, including diesel particulate filters, lean NOx trap, urea selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and hydrocarbon SCR. In addition, Dr. Storey does extensive research on real-world mobile source emissions and their effect on air quality.

Selected current research themes include:

  • Unusual byproducts of the urea SCR process
  • Mobile Source Air Toxic (MSAT) emissions from advanced combustion engines with and without catalytic aftertreatment
  • Soot chemical and physical characterization
  • Real-time exhaust composition measurements
