Description

Radiation Detection Practical Exercise The Radiation Detection Level II Operators Course is a competency-based training program that prepares Coast Guard personnel to conduct radiation detection operations on board vessels and ashore. The program is designed to provide a review of concepts and theories learned during Level I Radiation Hazard training, applicable concepts in science, and safety stressing “hands-on” practical experience in shipboard and shore side facility Level II Radiation Hazard Detection. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, effectiveness, officer safety, and practical exercises. The course is designed to benefit Coast Guard personnel assigned to Level II Radiation Hazard Detection duties and requires knowledge of Level I Radiation Hazard Detection. The course focuses on Coast Guard policy, basic radiological science, safety, skills and behaviors that will lead to superior performance in the field.

Accreditation

The Radiation Detection Level II Operators Course is accredited by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA).

Prerequisites for Attendance

  1. Must be E-4 or above.
  2. Members must have at least one year remaining at their unit or be transferring to a unit that conducts radiation detection.
