Law Enforcement Training

The Boarding Officer Practical Course (BOPC) is the resident training portion of the Boarding Officer Qualification Support Program (BOQSP) which is designed to provide a foundation in applicable legal concepts, stressing both self-paced (Boarding Officer eLearning Course) and practical experience (resident course) in maritime law enforcement operations.

The targeted population is Enlisted (E-4 and above) and Officers/Warrant Officers (O-3 and below) serving at units in ONE or more of the following capacities:

  1. Reservists currently conducting boardings.
  2. Reservists in a known CPRL billet.
  3. Reservists assigned to enforcement billets at Sectors and Districts.(Junior Officers and Senior Enlisted)
  4. Active Duty serving in a law enforcement billet (Limited Availability)

Prerequisites for Attendance

Top
  1. Currently Qualified as a Coast Guard Boarding Team Member including:
    • Six months boarding experience OR ten boardings conduct as a qualified BTM prior to arrival for training.
    • Task 1-01 of BO/BTM PQS (COMDTINST M16247.3B) shall be current. Students will be expected to pass a physical fitness test upon arrival at the MLEA.
    • Task 1-02 (Semi-annual PDW Weapons Certification of BO/BTM PQS (COMDTINST M16247.3B) shall be current. Students are expected to safely handle firearms during training scenarios.
  2. Completed the BOC eLearning Course
  3. Within the maximum allowable weight standards (MAWS) in accordance with Paragraph 2.I. of COMDTINST M1020.8(series).
  4. Command Endorsement.
Note Failure to meet the above prerequisites may result in disenrollment from the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy.

Waivers

All waivers must be approved by COMDT (CG-5312).
