To our everlasting regret, we have had an interface with a Cardiology system that did not get an ADT (we weren't given a choice in the matter). I cannot tell you how many soft recoveries a day we got on incorrect pt names in their messages - NOT a route I would recommend to anyone. Fortunately, they finally upgraded to a level which accepted ADT feeds. --------------------------------------------------------- Beth Nevins TDS Information Technology Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY 212-659-1400 [log in to unmask] -----Original Message----- From: Mike Whitaker [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 2:12 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Open Interfaces Charlie, I have never interfaced to/from a system that did not take the ADT from either TDS or the ADT system, there are just too many risks with manual ADT entry. I have worked on interfaces where I only sent an order message and the receiving system would use the ADT data in the order message to create the patient record on their system before filing the order. One thing I have also done on some interfaces to help prevent NAMCHK problems is only send the patient last name because TDS only checks the name up to the length of what is sent. I had to do that with a couple of systems that did not maintain the middle name/initial correctly. Maybe the question would be better formulated were it to read "How many sites would not allow an system to interface with TDS unless that system received ADT?". I having a difficult time grasping the feasibility of the allowing such an interface. The end user would be responsible for manually admitting the patient into their system, including the Acct#, MRN and name. The engine will cross check that the Acct# is valid for the MRN sent in, and we can even send along the name from a look-up on the engine to circumvent NAMCHK problems. Maybe its just me and there are many sites that use such interfaces? ============== Charles T Lunn Tel 706.886.4434 www.uysinc.com <http://www.uysinc.com/> ==============
