IIB. The Four Ways to Find Proper Subject Headings

How do you find the most specific term(s)? There are four ways to do it. Methods "a" and "b" involve the use of the red books; methods "c" and "d" entail the use of the catalog itself:

  1. Follow cross-references
  2. Browse subject headings using alphabetic adjacency
  3. Follow subject tracings
  4. Browse lists of subdivisions
