Affected organs: Skin, eyes, respiratory system

    Notes:
    1. OSHA does not have a PEL for 1-amino-2-propanol. An occupational exposure limit of 7.3 mg/m3 has been proposed, being 1/60 of the concentration causing a 50% decrease in respiratory frequency due to respiratory irritation in mice exposed for 3 hours.
    2. Vapor/air mixtures of 1-amino-2-propanol may be explosive at temperatures above 77°C.
    3. 1-Amino-2-propanol is considered to have no safety concern at current levels of intake when used as a flavoring agent [Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association number 3130; Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) number 1582]. JECFA may revoke this status if use levels as a flavoring agent or poundage data remain unknown by the end of 2007.
    4. Exposure of the skin to a 2% solution may be slightly irritating, but did not cause sensitization in any of 150 volunteers.
    5. Five cases of irritant contact dermatitis were found during a NIOSH evaluation of some employees exposed to monoisopropanolamine at a plant that produces titanium dioxide pigment.
