There is no prohibition against an MGIB-Active Duty (Chapter 30) student receiving the MGIB-AD College Fund ("kicker") and the MGIB-Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) kicker at the same time. A person who was on active duty and then joins the selected reserve, and is eligible for the MGIB College Fund ("kicker") can receive both the active duty and selected reserve kickers. There is no special SMP (Simultaneous Membership Program) kicker. However, there are MGIB-SR (Chapter 1606) kickers. For example, some members of the Army National Guard are receiving the MGIB-SR kicker because of their SMP status or the skill they have in the reserve unit. The SMP status allows an enlisted member of a unit to join ROTC and receive the MGIB-SR kicker. NOTE: If you were receiving the MGIB-Active Duty (Chapter 30) benefits and College Fund ("kicker") before also becoming eligible for the MGIB-SR "kicker," please contact VA to notify us that you should now receive two kickers. Your reserve unit does NOT automatically pass this information on to VA, which could delay payment of your second kicker. You will need to provide a copy of your MGIB-SR "kicker" contract, which can be obtained from your reserve unit. You can contact VA by using the "Ask a Question" tab above, or by calling 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551)
