    It was Coubertin who founded the modern Olympic movement and began the revival of the Olympic Games. Many of his writings, however, are in sources that are obscure and difficult to obtain. The majority have not been translated from the original French. The most complete set of his writings, as well as his personal papers and letters, is in the library of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.

    Includes chapters on each summer and winter Olympics, the ancient games, the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee, and biographies of all presidents of the International Olympic Committee. It also has a section on Olympic films (both documentary and feature) and an extensive bibliography to supplement those for each chapter.

    Explores all aspects of the Games and includes a brief review of all the Olympiads, lists of IOC members, records, etc., and a chronology. By two well known and authoritative Olympic authors.

  • The Olympics: A Bibliography, by Bill Mallon. New York: Garland Pub., 1984. xviii, 258 p. (Garland Reference Library of Social Science; vol. 246). In various languages.

    Unique as a source of official Olympic publications. The arrangement is by language, and the final two chapters contain a list of dissertations and films, respectively. This publication also lists official reports by Olympiad.

    Has many articles concerning the Olympics with both author and subject indexes. The latter is somewhat difficult to use because it contains headings for "Olympics" as well as for individual games, and there are no cross references to alert the researcher to this fact.

    This title indexes and gives sources for individual titles. Extremely useful for in-depth research.
