Previous NARCH Announcements

2005

On April 29, 2005, the I H S published an announcement for Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH IV) Grants in the Federal Register. NARCH IV is a cooperative program using funds from the research agencies (such as the National Institutes of Health and the Agency for Health Research and Quality) to fund developmental and pilot research activities and research training at Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Indian Health Boards. The purpose of the NARCH grants are to:

  1. To develop a cadre of AI/AN scientists and health professionals engaged in biomedical, clinical, behavioral and health services research who will be competitive in securing National Institutes of health funding;
  2. To increase the capacity of both research-intensive institutions and AI/AN organizations to work in partnership to reduce distrust by AI/AN communities and people toward research;
  3. and encourage competitive research linked to the health priorities of the AI/AN organizations and to reducing health disparities. These purposes will be achieved by supporting student development projects, faculty/researcher development projects, and research projects (including pilot projects) developed by each NARCH partnership.

This was the fourth time that NARCH grant funds have been offered through the I H S.

The closing date for NARCH IV grant applications was September 14, 2005. NARCH V is being planned, but is currently postponed subject to the availability of funds.
