Urban Area Boundry Maps

For Hawaii, the Federal-aid Urban Area (FAUA) boundary will include the entire urbanized area, places with a population of 5,000 to 49,999 and future (20-year horizon) urban development.  In the case where the urban area boundary follows a road, the road is included within the urban area boundary.

The urban area boundaries are primarily for capital project funding and design purposes, and are not to be confused with the existing boundaries defined by the census data.  Urban area boundaries also affect Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS), highway functional classification, and other reports of transporation facilities planned to accomodate future urban development.
