National Park Service Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month
(Washington, DC) September 15-October 15 is designated Hispanic Heritage Month. “Getting Involved: Our Families, Our Community and Our Nation” is the theme. Several historical events are planned: September 15 marks the Independence Day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua; September 16 marks the Mexican Independence Day and October 12 is Columbus Day. National Park Service and National Public Lands Day
(Nationwide) National Public Lands Day on September 27 is an annual event designed to encourage everyone to get outside and visit places such as national parks. All National Park Service entrance fees will be waived to encourage visitation. Many parks will also sponsor volunteer restoration and clean-up efforts. More News
Texas White House Opens to the Public
(Stonewall, Texas) The Texas White House officially opened to the public on August 27, 2008. President Johnson's office, restored to its 1963-1968 appearance, is available for public tours.
