STIP Meeting (Kathy Waldrop)

The primary reason for the call was to discuss final details related to the upcoming STIP Meeting in Berkeley, CA.  The draft STIP Meeting agenda was sent out to the STIP Managers before the teleconference to allow for review and discussion.

Hotel room reservations must be made this week at the Hotel Durant to receive the negotiated special rate of $100 (government rate).  The reservation line is 1-800-238-7268; reference the STIP Meeting when making the reservation.

OSTI and LBNL have arranged for a shuttle between the Hotel Durant and the meeting location at LBNL (Perseverance Hall).  You won’t need to rent a car in California to attend this meeting.  If you take the shuttle, you won’t need to do any paperwork, but you do need to take your badge.  If you’re planning to drive, you must make plans to get through the gate beforehand through Jose Olivares, LBNL at JAOlivares@lbl.gov.  Keep in mind that parking is limited. There will not be reserved parking for the meeting attendees.  You will be one of many looking for a parking spot and you may not find one close to the meeting location.

There is an airport shuttle that provides service to/from Oakland and San Francisco Airports and the Hotel Durant.  Information about shuttle service can be found on Hotel Durant’s web site at http://www.hoteldurant.com/

The meeting rooms are located in Perseverance Hall right off the cafeteria.  If you get there early, the cafeteria opens at 6:00 am and has a full breakfast menu.  However, a continental breakfast as well as afternoon refreshments will be provided at the meeting thanks to LBNL.

The Advanced Light Source (ALS) tour offered Wednesday morning will take approximately 1 hour and will begin at 9:00 am from Perseverance Hall.  Tour participants will be walking to ALS which is a short walk. OSTI needs to know how many will be participating in the tour so that final arrangements can be made.

Our host, Jane Tierney has arranged for a group dinner on Wednesday, April 20 at the new Adagia restaurant (see www.dailycal.org/article.php?id=17861 for a review and photo).  We need a final count of who will participate ASAP.

STIP Directive (Kathy Waldrop)

If you look at the DOE O 241.1A, you will see that it expires April 2005; however the directives don’t expire, they are still valid.  The next time the directive is revised, there will not be an expiration date.  The DOE Directives website is supposed to be updated with a notation explaining all of this.  We will probably look at revising the Order before the end of the calendar year.
