Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) today announced that it will pay the administrative fees for each OPM employee enrolling in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program.
The $4 monthly fee per participant for a health care FSA and the 1.5% of the annual allotment per participant for a dependent care FSA will be covered by OPM.
"It is important that federal employees be allowed to keep their hard-earned money," remarked OPM Director Kay Coles James in a recent memorandum to the heads of agencies and departments urging them to pay the administrative costs associated with the FSA program on behalf of their employees. "It's the right thing to do and I am committed to providing the strongest set of benefits possible to members of the OPM and their families."
The FSA program was recently given a one-week extension giving federal employees who are independently schooled on the program additional time to consider whether the features and benefits of the health care FSA or the dependent care FSA match their needs. The deadline for pre-enrollment is June 27.
OPM oversees the federal work force and provides the American public with up-to-date employment information. OPM also supports U.S. agencies with personnel services and policy leadership including staffing tools, guidance on labor-management relations and programs to improve work force performance.
