National Safety Council Congress and Expo

Description: The National Safety Council Congress & Expo is THE world's largest annual event dedicated to the safety, health and environmental industries. The Expo is the industries' leading networking event with over 800 companies showcasing the latest safety, health and environmental products and services to buyers looking to solve their current safety issues and prevent costly occurrences.

Global Health Odyssey Museum Day
September 27
Hosted by the Global Health Odyssey and the Smithsonian Institute

Description: The Global Health Odyssey Museum (GHO), a Smithsonian Affiliate, will be participating in Museum Day, and opening new exhibits to the public on Saturday, September 27. On this day, participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide will open their doors free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors. Although GHO does not charge admission, it will participate in the "spirit" of the day. Be the first to see the new temporary exhibition, Outbreak: Plagues that Changed History/The Work of Bryn Barnard, which examines the symptoms and paths of the world's deadliest diseases, along with how the epidemics they spawned changed the course of human history in surprisingly powerful and unexpected ways. Also opening is the newest addition to The Story of CDC, "Smoking: The Most Preventable Cause of Disease," displaying rare images, artifacts, and videos.

XIX International Conference on Rabies in the Americas
Hosted by CDC, the Task Force for Child Survival and Development, and the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

Description: The Rabies in the Americas meeting is an annual international meeting that has been held since 1990 at various locations throughout North and South America. This meeting allows researchers, directors of national and municipal programs, laboratory workers, and others interested in the advancement and understanding of rabies surveillance, prevention, and control to come together to celebrate the many successes we have made in the field of rabies, while also discussing some of the challenges that lay ahead.

2008 NPHIC Annual Conference
Hosted by CDC and the National Public Health Information Coalition

Description: The NPHIC Annual Conference attracts public health communicators in health and emergency response agencies, public relations professionals in private firms, representatives of companies affiliated with health-related issues, and just about anyone interested in public health.

Speakers will include Dr. Cheryl Healton, President and CEO of the American Legacy Foundation; Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, commanding general, First Army, and leader of Joint Task Force Katrina before his retirement; and Dr. Jay Bernhardt, director of CDC's National Center for Health Marketing.

Session topics will include using new media, advancing health literacy, translating during emergencies, designing effective messages, and communicating with diverse populations.

National E-prescribing Conference
Hosted by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services

Description: The goal of this conference is to educate healthcare providers and professionals, pharmacists and beneficiary constituencies on the Medicare improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) e-prescribing program and help promote the adoption of e-prescribing throughout the healthcare community. Attend and find out how to earn incentives from Medicare, learn how e-prescribing can work for your business, and get answers to your questions about privacy, security, and risk management.

American Public Health Association Annual Meeting
Hosted by the American Public Health Association

Description: The APHA Annual Meeting theme "Public Health Without Borders" explores transnational public health, and will provide a forum to address a diversity of topics including immigrant and refugee health; water and land rights; coordinating disease surveillance and epidemiologic response activities across borders; air and water pollution management across borders; and the international transmission of socio-cultural behaviors with adverse health implications.
