The IHS Director's Prevention Initiative is meeting the challenge to develop, implement, and support a structured program that will result in effective health promotion and disease prevention services for AI/AN at the community level, resulting in measurable improvements in the health status of AI/AN in the future. FY 2006 Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Grant Awards

In FY 2006, Indian Health Service (IHS) awarded 13 competitive grants to thirteen American Indian/ Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. The purpose of the grant is to enhance and expand health promotion and chronic disease prevention to reduce health disparities among AI/AN populations. The plan is fully integrated with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Initiative such as Healthy People 2010 and Steps to a HealthierUS.
