Dedicated in 1922, the Lincoln Memorial is one
of the most popular works of American architecture. It won its
architect Henry Bacon, the Gold Medal of the American Institute
of Architects, his professions highest honor. These original sketches
are two in a series that shows his critical role in the evolution
of the design, scale, and placement of the statue created by Daniel
Chester French for the building's interior.
