New Evacuation Routes. As part of National Preparedness Month, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) unveiled new emergency evacuation route signs that will clearly identify evacuation routes out of the city in case of an emergency. New Safeway Grocery Store. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty joined executives from Safeway to celebrate the grand opening of the grocery store chain’s first downtown store in the District.
