In nonmetropolitan counties nationwide, the number of arrests fell 3.9 percent in 2007 when compared with the 2006 data.
The number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested in nonmetropolitan counties declined 6.6 percent, and the number of adults arrested in nonmetropolitan counties decreased 3.7 percent.
Overall, the number of arrests in nonmetropolitan counties for violent crimes decreased 4.9 percent in 2007. The number of juveniles arrested in nonmetropolitan counties for violent crimes fell 7.0 percent, and the number of adults arrested in nonmetropolitan counties for violent crimes decreased 4.7 percent when compared with the 2006 data.
By offense type, the number of juveniles arrested for robbery offenses increased 3.6 percent. The number of adults arrested in nonmetropolitan counties for robbery offenses decreased 7.5 percent.
The number of arrests for property crimes in nonmetropolitan counties decreased 4.3 percent in 2007. Arrests of juveniles for property crime declined 5.1 percent, and arrests of adults for property crime decreased 4.2 percent.
