In 2007, the number of males arrested decreased 6.1 percent from the number arrested in 1998, and the number of females arrested increased 6.6 percent.
The number of persons arrested in 2007 for violent crimes dropped 10.5 percent for males and 1.1 percent for females when compared with the numbers arrested a decade earlier (1998).
For property crimes, the number of males arrested in 2007 declined 17.8 percent from the number arrested in 1998, but the number of females arrested increased 0.3 percent.
In the 10-year trend (1998 and 2007), arrests for juveniles (persons under age 18) showed that the number of male and female juveniles arrested decreased 23.0 percent and 13.5 percent, respectively.
When compared with data from 1998, the number of juveniles arrested in 2007 for violent crimes declined for both genders. Arrests of males under age 18 declined 14.3 percent, and arrests of females under age 18 decreased 12.7 percent.
The 1998 and 2007 data showed that arrests of juveniles for property crimes also declined for both genders—38.9 percent for males and 17.7 percent for females.
