William J. McAuley, Ph.D.
William J. (Jim) McAuley, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Administration at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Through 1999, he served as Co-Chair and Director of Research at the Oklahoma Center on Aging and Interim Chair of the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. His primary areas of research include quantitative and qualitative investigations of the health and long-term care of older populations, with emphasis on vulnerable groups and rural-urban differences.
Dr. McAuley is past Editor of the Journal of Applied Gerontology, and currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Gerontology, the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, and the International Journal of Aging and Human Development. His published research has appeared in the Journal of Gerontology, Health Services Research, The Gerontologist, Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, and Research on Aging. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. McAuley is currently a Long-term Care Scholar in Residence at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), examining data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) to evaluate the differences in home care use by urban/rural location and the policy implications of the differences.
