William Spector, Ph.D.
William Spector, Ph.D., is a health services researcher who specializes in research on long-term care. Prior to his arrival at
the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), he was Associate Director for Research at the Gerontology Center at Brown University. He has been on the
faculties of Brown University, George Mason University, and Salem State College.
Dr. Spector has spent about 15 years researching factors that affect access to long-term care as well as the quality of that
care. He is particularly interested in the impact of the organization of care on quality, appropriateness of treatment and
setting, as well as methods for measuring and estimating outcomes of care.
Dr. Spector's work has appeared in journals including The Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, Milbank
Quarterly, Medical Care, Inquiry, The Journal of Aging and Health, and The Gerontologist. He received his doctorate in
social policy from the Florence Heller School, Brandeis University, an M.A. in economics from University of California, Los Angeles, and a B.A. in
economics from Brandeis University.
