Annual Performance Measures
The Department of Revenue administers more than 30 tax programs in addition to the personal income tax. These programs include corporation income and excise taxes; inheritance taxes; and tobacco taxes. Additionally, we collect and distribute revenues for TriMet and Lane transit districts. We process about 4.5 million documents a year. For tax year 2006, approximately 983,000 personal income tax returns were filed electronically—56 percent of the 1.75 million income tax return filed for that year. We collect delinquent accounts for more than 283 state agencies, programs, and boards, including the departments of Human Services, Justice, and Higher Education; community colleges; and Oregon state courts. Though we do not collect property taxes, we are responsible for seeing that property tax laws are applied fairly and equitably throughout the state. We also provide training and assistance for county assessors, tax collectors, treasurers, and local government budget officials. We appraise and establish values for utility property, forestland, and most large industrial property for county tax rolls. We collect taxes on harvested timber for distribution to schools, county taxing districts, and state programs related to timber.
