Appeals
If you disagree with certain actions of the department or the county, you may have the right to appeal. There are three different types of appeals. Each requires a different process:
  1. Western Oregon Privilege Tax, Eastern Oregon Privilege Tax, Forest Products Harvest Tax, and Small Tract Forestland (STF) Severance Tax appeals (Appealing a Notice of Deficiency or Assessment)

  2. Forestland productivity class appeals.

  3. Property tax value appeals. (How to Appeal Your Property Value)

  4. Specially assessed forestland values appeals. (ORS 321.219)

Forestland Productivity Class Appeals

Eight classes of forestland exist in western Oregon. Each class is based upon the land´s ability to grow trees. You may appeal the "land class(es)" assigned to your property. Submit a written request to the Oregon Department of Revenue. Be sure to identify the property, including the county, property tax account number, and total forestland acres. Describe and submit any data that supports your position. Mail your request for review to:
Oregon Department of Revenue
PO Box 14380
Salem OR 97309.
If you disagree with the department’s decision, you may appeal to the Magistrate Division of the Oregon Tax Court.
