Over 300,000 Households Applied for Federal Assistance

September 19, 2008 – According to FEMA, 317,791 households have applied for federal assistance and 9,179 for transitional housing assistance. Residents from the declared disaster areas in Texas and La. can register at 1-800-621-FEMA or FEMA.gov.

Federal agencies continue to work with state and local partners to provide eligible disaster-affected people with a safe, secure and sanitary place to live until they can return home. Read more

Ready Kids, Sesame Workshop Partner for Preparedness

September 17, 2008 - The Department's Ready Kids Campaign announced with Sesame Workshop a new tool on emergency preparedness for parents of young children called "Let's Get Ready!" This guide aims to get families planning together for emergencies through simple activities and games that focus on talking to young children about the people, places and things that will keep the family safe during an emergency. USCIS Welcomes More than 39,000 New Citizens

September 17, 2008 - More than 39,000 individuals will become new citizens of the United States this week during special ceremonies hosted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to recognize Constitution Week. USCIS will hold more than 177 naturalization ceremonies this week. More at USCIS.gov
