Urban Design

Inherent in nearly all the work of the Advance Planning division and the Planning Department is good urban design. Different parts of the built city combine to profoundly affect the quality of Albuquerqueans' lives, so it is imperative that consideration be given to the relationship between land use, economic activity, mobility, preservation and design of public and private spaces and places. The division works to enhance the appearance and function of activity centers, streets and neighborhoods with design requirements for buildings, parking, pedestrian facilities, walls, landscaping and public art. These objectives are achieved through area-wide policies like the Comprehensive Plan, facility initiatives like the Interstate Corridor Enhancement Plan and through more specific project development such as capital improvements to a particular streetscape.
